High School English Teacher

Devon Preparatory School, a Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grades six to twelve, is seeking a High School English Teacher teacher to join our faculty for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Devon Prep’s approach to education is based on the traditions of the Piarist Fathers who are dedicated to the education of youth. It is the goal at Devon Prep to inspire in our students a commitment to values that will enable them to become responsible leaders. Focusing on each student’s potential, we believe that the school and the family must work together to foster a love of learning which will propel the student into a lifelong quest for excellence—for the glory of God and the service of neighbor.

It is expected the successful candidate would:

  • Teach literature and writing
  • Plan engaging and well-structured lessons that cater to different learning styles, incorporating a variety of activities and resources.
  • Encourage student participation through discussions, group activities, and interactive lessons to enhance comprehension and critical thinking.
  • Make literature and writing meaningful and relevant to students’ everyday lives and future careers.
  • Foster a passion for reading and writing by selecting engaging texts, promoting independent reading, and creating opportunities for creative expression.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, guiding students on how to improve and celebrating their successes.
  • Implement student-centered teaching practices.
  • Integrate technology tools and resources to enhance learning experiences, keeping lessons relevant and preparing students for the digital age.
  • Proactively communicate with students, parents and administration.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and seek opportunities for cross-curricular learning.
  • Perform additional duties, such as advising a club, substituting classes, and chaperoning events, as needed.

In addition, a candidate should possess the following professional qualifications and personal qualities:

  • Minimum B.S. in English or related field
  • Teaching certification is preferred
  • 3 Years Teaching experience is preferred
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • A sense of humor, warmth of personality, and energy
  • Flexibility

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
